I'll not talk about politics here.
Although this demonstration was apolitical, the small world of our dear representatives (does this word still have a meaning ?) was
more than omnipresent today.
Fortunately, no "elite" has shown up today. The recovery attempt was reportedly obvious. However, a party on the far left of the political
spectrum was still present opposite the Gare du Nord. No big deal...
The imposing cortege (from 34,000 to 45,000 peopleNote1 according to various sources)
therefore set off in Brussels-North to join the Cinquantenaire esplanade.
On the few four kilometers of the course, the key words were friendliness, solidarity and imagination. The numerous humorous signs are proof
of this, without forgetting the disguises.
Nor should we forget a hint of nationalism. Good nationalism is understood. This January 23 was one of the too few occasions when we felt
this country vibrate.
The song of the Swan ? I dare not believe it...
The party was however spoiled by a dozen TAKNote2 activists (from photo 76). These
assholesNote3 were waiting for the procession near the Charlemagne building, Wetstraat.
Spirits warmed up fairly quickly, and a fairly violent altercation quickly took place. But luckily away from the protesters.
The TAK not even respecting the many children present today, it is high time that they finally pledge their only place : the prison ! Five
of them will be placed in police custody.
Right after this deplorable incident, perhaps the image to remember (photo 94) : a demonstrator waving a Flemish Movement flag (and not
simply Flemish, I insist !) Torn apart by the stampede.
Usually it’s the TAK that spits on anything that is black-yellow-red. For once, the roles are reversed.
After this deplorable incident, the good humor was quickly back.
The event was organized by Thomas Royberghs, Felix De Clerck, Simon Vandereecken, Alex Hermans and Thomas Decreus, five students.
