Seat of "industrial" activity since the 11th century, the spinning mill (which was not) was victim of assholes a good ten years ago. Certainly finding it very funny, some SOB set fire to the venerable building, and so most of the buildings were destroyed.
Luckily for us, some rooms escaped the blaze and we can admire a very unique and impressive brick structure. In the floors, a few transmission shafts and two ovens are still present...
A beautiful renovation project was unveiled shortly after the fire, but as too often in Belgium, it went unheeded.
Rather of reviving a historic place, authorities prefer to let it die slowly. Pathetic...
Old walls that have housed intense activity for centuries.
Technical means from another time.
A somewhat stifling atmosphere.
The aftermath of the fire. To venture further would be dangerous.
Free of any human presence for nearly 30 years, the old building is slowly dying.
Two ovens (?) that have been off for ages.
If the renovation had been successful, what would have become of them ?
The highlight of the show : two rooms dominated by an incredible fan-shaped fireplace.
A unique structure...
... rising from floor to ceiling and forming a most beautiful vault.
Shadow & light.
End of visit.
