What can be the relationship between the priory visited on this rainy day and the Metropolitan Museum in New York ? A statue of the Virgin.
Besides this statue, a real treasure has been forged in the old centuries-old walls.
This priory, founded in the 12th century, has for centuries been a shrine of art. Unfortunately, the French revolution went through this and
the priory was dissolved. Soon after, the church and cloister were demolished and the remaining buildings converted into a factory. After
the factory closed, a fire destroyed a wing.
Since then, the old priory has been waiting for better days. Will they finally come ? Nothing is less sure...
After the factory, a small part of the buildings was converted into a reception hall and a small theater.
The room which is in the best condition of the site. That is to say the state of the rest...
The theater.
The central wing...
... and the wing burned down.
The theater wing.
In the central wing.
A few corridors have retained their former majesty.
Elsewhere, a sad sight.
The decor alternates between rooms that are still almost intact and other completely dismantled.
Here, all floors have been demolished from the cellar to the attic.
What remains of the burnt wing.
End of visit.
