The coal mine Forte-Taille has only had a short career since it was operated between 1875 and 1935. To ensure operation, several
buildings have been built and present a beautiful architectural unity.
Unfortunately, several long abandonments and a few crappy reconversions have left us with precariously balanced ruins. Regardless, the site
is nice and deserves to see its buildings refurbished.
In the meantime, refrain from going to this coal mine.
The buildings are at the end of life and a sudden collapse can occur at any time.
We start with the offices, by far the most valiant building.
A beautiful piano proudly sits there.
Then, the store and workshops and its immovable ladder.
Some leaks in the roof but nothing serious...
The old walls are crumbling all over the place.
In the boiler room. Stairs prohibited, unless you want to die quickly.
The magnificent machines' building. Here, the roof holds by miracle.
Nature is gradually regaining its rights.
We will refrain from testing the strength of the walls...
This is where the extraction machines, fans and compressors were located. Obviously, no more vestige of these machines.
Despite its dismal condition, this building is still looking pretty cool.
Adjacent to the two (destroyed) headframes, we find the changing room building with showers still in good condition.
Right next to it, the unrecognizable changing room.
The machines' building, little by little hidden by nature.
Between the boiler room and the machines, there is still a footbridge supporting a compressed air line.
End of this pleasant visit.
